Guide to Student Storage in Wiltshire for Summer Break

Posted on June 26, 2017 by Henry

Ok, summers here, schools out and it’s time to go home and get your laundry done and eat from your parents fridge and breath out. Your future is bright and abundant. Perhaps you have a work lined up. But there’s one more job you have to do. Clear out your stuff from your university digs. DON’T PANIC! Read this guide to student storage in Wiltshire and get it done in a weekend (or a day if you power through like when you did those assignments). Start like this: Catagorise your stuff, make 3 area’s/piles

Chuck It

If it’s broken, chuck it. It’s you can’t think of any use for it. Chuck it. Loads of papers that feel stressful to store, Chuck it. Recycle if you can for your conscious but don’t store crap you don’t need. Enjoy being ruthless. Then Chuck it out. Make Space to make progress.

Charity It

Books your will not re-read, clothes that you don’t see yourself wearing again. un-necessary and working gadgets. All good stuff for someone else. Drop the lot off at a charity shop and feel good about yourself. if you donate to Oxfam you can attach your nectar card and gain points when they sell. Bonus! Once ready take it to the charity shop. Make space to make progress.

Box It

What’s left goes in a box. Does it look like a lot? Never mind, once its in a box it’s sorted. Instore can provide you will all the packing material you need. Boxes, wrap, tape Etc.  The rule about packing is: If you see it. Put it in a box. Stick to that and you will make progress. Remember the bottom of the box needs to remain strong. When boxing imagine that are not going to open these again until some time so don’t stress too much about categorising them very well. Unpacking is always faster than packing.

Now you should have neat manageable pile of your stuff.

Feel pleased with yourself

Clean Up

Hover the place, give it wipe. You don’t have to be immaculate the landlord should thoroughly clean it before the next lot comes in. this puts you in good stead for a reference and its worth it. Tell the landlord about any stuff that needs fixing or wasn’t quite right.

Our instore Boys will pick this up, take away your trouble and you know it’s safe secure ready for the next adventure. Problem solved and sorted.

We hope you found this guide to student storage in Wiltshire useful. Now enjoy your summer.

Fathers Day – Garage Clean Out

Posted on June 18, 2017 by Henry

I’ll start by encouraging you to call us with that Attic or Garage clean out you’ve been meaning to do.  Get a 10% Fathers Day discount on your first 3 months and we’ll come and put all your stuff into Storage.

But for all you Fathers out there – here’s what you can do after you’ve cleaned the garage out.

  1. Sit down and relax with a beer – that first sip of pure nectar is beautiful when you’ve worked up a bit of a sweat
  2. Re-discover the BBQ – it’s bound to be in there under all the winter junk and skateboards that you’ve been collecting
  3. Ping Pong table – you might actually be able to use it now that there’s some space cleared
  4. Tool sort out – if you’re like me – you have lots or tools that you never knew you had – they should be arranged conveniently on that wall thingy people have
  5. Boats and Water Toys – for some reason we all keep ancient life jackets and rotter flippers – we just do, is it time to use them or to throw them.
  6. Re-discovery your hobbies with a clear space you really might be able to start that Hot Air Balloon project that you were going to do when you were a boy.
  7. Fixed and working bikes are so much more satisfying when they really are fixed and working and being used.
  8. Sit down and have a second beer, I mean you’ve done the work
  9. Time with the kids – they need to get up, out of their rooms and what better way to get to know than when they are being useful and busy. You can’t tell them off  when they are helping.
  10. Keeping the wife happy – no one willingly clears out their Garage, but we Fathers do have a habit of doing what we are told eventually.
  11. (and then make that call to inStore – your friendly local storage people, never knowingly undersold – and we can come and pick up all that’s left and for just a tenner a week we can store it all away from the house.

Happy Fathers Day and please do take us up on our offer of 10% off (offers ends 30th June) to anyone who does their garage clean out.

DIY Storage – Pros and Cons

Posted on May 22, 2017 by Henry

My guess is that this applies as much to Business Storage as it does to Personal or Domestic Storage.  It’s all about Space at the end of the day, but hey – I think the Pros and Cons of DIY Storage are worth looking at – so without further ado:

DIY Storage Pros

  • Flexible – your belongings are always there when you need them.  There is just no quibbling with the situation.
  • Location – your belongings are probably on your doorstep – which is lovely.
  • Empty Barns – if you are lucky enough to have space and are not using it for anything else.
  • Costs – although the costs look obvious that may bit always be the case – but it is definitely worth working out.
  • Small Items – obviously easier to store locally in an attic or garage.

DIY Storage Cons

  • Space – you lose it and for offices in particular this can be expensive – the loss of valuable office space means rental costs can be higher than if you were to employ off-site storage units.
  • Labour – if you are self storing – then you’re doing all the work.  If belongings are heavy you need to either enlist friends or find some way to get around the problem.
  • Security – the truth is you’re unlikely without great expense to be able to provide the level of security you might want.  I say this all with a pinch of salt as it all depends on what you are storing, which for the purposes of this article is a big unknown to us.
  • Damp and Condensation – I cannot tell you the times I have visited peoples garages or out-buildings to rescue belongings from the elements, be it moths or mildew when you’re storing personal belongings and the time comes to bring everything out the cleaning and throwing away is excruciating.
  • Special Items – cars, planes, antiques all things that need Specialist Storage, if something is very valuable it is probably worth the cost of proper storage.

The purpose of this small note on the Pros and cons of DIY storage is not really to persuade one way or the other – but more to open the discussion on what is available out there.  How much access do you need? What sort of budget is available? Do you have the space for DIY storage?

Do please let us know if you have any comments of your own on this.

Self Storage Units in Wincanton

Posted on May 9, 2017 by Henry

Top 10 Self Storage Units in Wincanton

  1. StorageBase – Actually they are based in Frome or Bath – Not Wincanton
  2. Sparkford Storage – hmmm no that’s 15 miles away
  3. Whiteball Storage advertise in Wincanton – but they are in Taunton.
  4. Barn Store are in a Barn just outside Shaftesbury
  5. Beehive are in Blandford
  6. Sandys and Langham are in Gillingham

Shall I complete the list?

  1. Somerset Storage are in Glastonbury
  2. Lock and Load are in Yeovil
  3. And the nearest BigYellow is in Poole
Source: Google

So, what is my point… Firstly it is about how big companies advertise… For sure we want you guys reading this to think of us for your Storage, but more than that we don’t want you to travel half way across the country when there is probably a perfectly good local place near you.  Why do people that live in Wincanton have to go Bristol for their storage needs.  We’re here!

Second – come on Google – we’re in Wincanton – why are you not directing people towards our services in Wincanton for the people of Wincanton.  I know the mysteries of Google are great and we all feel that, but if I cannot find a storage company that is actually located where I live – then what hope do I have if I want a Pizza, or to see a film, am I going to have to travel half way across southern England just because Googles says that is my nearest result.

Now, onto Self Storage Units, call us old fashioned, but we’ve been around a long time and we know a little about about what we do, we hope we do it well and with a smile – truly we do. But what is self storage and surely we do that and more.  We have storage units, we just call them storage containers, we collect and deliver possessions from and to their owners, there’s no need for you to even visit our warehouses, but you can if you want to… we are completely flexible, state a time or just turn up, the door will always be open to our client.  Unlike these new entrants on the stage where the door is firmly locked until you present the right credentials – more numbers to remember.

But it’s more than that – we’re personal, our self storage units are run by local people, some of whom you will find in the pub in Wincanton, we’re not going to destroy or throw your possessions away if you don’t pay – we’e going to talk to you, we’re not going to block your access if you haven’t paid, or stitch you up in extra fees and costs because you’re in trouble.

Think of us like a Petrol Station – sure you can put your own fuel in, but there is an attendant there to help if needed, our self storage units are better than self storage units, ours come with people and with that comes knowledge, politeness and friendliness.

Now come on Google – sort this out and provide a better service for your customers looking for self storage units in Wincanton.

1st Time Buyers – We live in the Countryside

Posted on May 2, 2017 by Henry

1st time buyers take heed – we live in the countryside and we love it… Beautiful sunny days at the moment, spring is in the air and we’re posting this post late because we’ve just had the bank holiday weekend, life is good at the moment.

So how can we help – we are but a meagre storage company with a warehouse full of storage units, just waiting for you 1st time buyers to move out of London and set up home here in Mere, Gillingham, Shaftesbury or Frome, we don’t really mind, the country side is rolling, everyone is a little bit odd, but very friendly down in the Pub, the local postie knows us all by sight and we’re always happy to meet new people.

We’ve got George – that’s how we can help you… he’s in his early twenties, so he tells us, strong as an ox and friendly as can be, he’ll whizz up to London for almost any excuse and he’d be delighted to handle your House move, packing furniture and personal possessions carefully and without damage, bring it all down here and help you put it all into your home.  We’re not Pickfords I will grant that, but then nor are our prices and there is no harm in a quote to see how we stack up to the big boys.

1st Time Buyers Advice and Top Tips from inStoreOnce you’ve made it to the countryside – it won’t end there, if you have too much furniture we can store it for you.  I know the likes of Big Yellow in London have lots of self storage units, but we’re £10 per week per container and while it’s not 100% self storage we are always here to help you access your possessions with a friendly wave and relaxed approach.

Don’t worry we are secure, connected to the local Police and Fire Stations, with 24/7 cctv (it gets everywhere), but again it’s worth a quote just to see how we stack up to the bigger boys, also we’re local, if you are buying your 1st house in the Shaftesbury, Gillingham and Frowm triangle we could be more central.  We have clients from as far afield as Bath, Bristol and Taunton, nut really we like to focus on the best possible service locally.

So – we’re like self storage units – but we’re not – we’re more than that.  We’re not a barn in a field – we have a huge warehouse, as it was an old chimney factory, we’re open weekends and can arrange someone to be available any time you like.  We also collect and deliver.

For 1st time buyers we’re an ideal choice, local, friendly, economic and ready to hear from you.

Spring Cleaning – Easter is here!

Posted on April 14, 2017 by Henry

Easter is here! Put a Spring Cleaning in your step

It’s that time of year again, when Spring Cleaning and all that it entails comes to the fore, but before we bore you to much with our handy tips some interesting facts for you:

In many cultures around the world, the egg is a symbol of new life, fertility and rebirth. For thousands of years, Iranians and others have decorated eggs on Nowruz (header image), the Iranian New Year that falls on the spring equinox. Interesting no? For Christians, the Easter egg is symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ as we all know I’m sure (boring).

Spring Cleaning and Storing Your Belongings away with inStore

The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th century. Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became a symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter bunny lays, decorates and hides Easter eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.

Easter is also a time for seeing family, taking a short break, maybe the first BBQ or grass cut? even the odd egg if your lucky. Its that time of year where all the windows can be opened and the house can breath. The first sunny days start showing as the daffodils come to their peak and we hope the sun starts to take the batten in the race for the summer.

Here at inStore we know what its like when you need space, and this is the time of year for spring cleaning, so, if you are having a summer wedding, anniversary party, garage clear out, moving date or anything to do with needing somewhere to safely and securely keep your possessions short term or long term. We are here for you, we understand, its our job.

Take a look at our services or our case studies to find out more info on how we might be able to help you today.

Need storage in Mere – Spring is here

Posted on March 22, 2017 by Henry

Storage in Mere

Spring is here in Mere (nearly) and as the morning frost has its last word the sun starts to take its place. There is something about spring and the sunny mornings and evening on the horizon that makes me want to have a spring clear out ready for what summer has to bring.

Our main warehouse in Mere, Wiltshire just off the A-303 offers the perfect place to stash your spring clear out items, whether you have a small bungalow or a gigantic office, we all need our space to think. That is where we come in.

Residential, Specialist, Removals, Commercial, Business, Relocation

We can secure insurance on any item stored with us, we wrap & pack, fetch & carry, store & more – all on demand.

inStore started in Wincanton as a family venture combining practical skills and experience with traditional values. Our work ethic is focused exclusively towards you, the customer. And our mission is to create a calm, stress-free, experience for every customer, every time so that you keep on coming back. inStore takes the load, literally.

Mere is a small town, It lies at the extreme southwestern tip of the Salisbury Plain, close to the borders of Somerset and Dorset. The A-303 truck road passed through Mere until a bypass was built on the northern edge of the town in 1976. There is an old market square (although markets have not been held for several years), a chiming town clock and large 15th-century parish church.

The steep slope of Castle Hill rises from the northwestern side of Mere. Local industry and commerce includes the Hill Brush company which was based next door to our warehouse, but has very recently moved to the outskirts on the other side of Mere having build a brand new factory.

Time to Reflect on Our Possessions

Posted on March 8, 2017 by Henry

You may have noted that we’ve been proactive on our Blog recently. We’ve been promoting reflections on our possessions and what drives us to keep and store them in this modern age of busy lives and on the edge living.  We’ve done this and will keep doing this, partly to keep you our customers informed of our news and what we’re up to, but also partly to keep us in your mind.

Yes – I am reflecting on what exactly we’re doing here. We treat our things with such a high priority that sometimes we even get confused. Keeping things under lock and key, away from the light and hidden in our lives.  We don’t have space. We don’t have the time to enjoy so much of what we have.  There’s also the view that we have to keep things for our children and their homes as we sometimes downsize our own homes.

Then there’s the requirement to clear our another house quickly for some reason, maybe it’s been sold or let why you move away to gather yet more possessions somewhere else.  Are we a service company, a logistics operation, a helping hand, an expensive hindrance.  My own view is that more than anything we should be a caretaker of our possessions and I use the word ‘our’ on purpose, because when you store with us, your possessions become part of our possessions in the literal sense and we’re the ones that you have trusted to look after them.

Historically, you can look back at how people people treated their possessions and there was far more seasonality to life, the summer garden furniture would come our, or the library would be annually dusted, a change of clothes was obligatory and possessions were put away for a future use due to their scarcity or expense.  The same still rings true by and large, we care, and we look after and we take your possessions into our trust.

Of course you can have them back at any point, but that’s not the point – we’re here as a service company and recently, writing these Articles designed to inform or in reality keep us in your minds eye, because we want you to know more than anything else, your possessions are safe with us.  You can find out more on our Personal Storage Page.
